1. Online Application
To begin your application, you will have to setup a MPI Student Account. This will be the same account you will be using while attending MPI. Remember your login information as you will need it later. Create your account by clicking here: https://mpi.edlumina.com/register
Once inside, click ‘apply’ in the top right corner, and complete your MPI application.
2. Personal Essay
Tell us your story! Why are you passionate about filmmaking? What are your long-term career goals in film and why are you a good candidate for Motion Picture Institute?
Minimum word count: 250.
Once completed, upload the essay to your MPI Student Account.
3. Letter of Recommendation
We know your family thinks you’re great, we want to hear from someone else. Please provide at least one letter of recommendation from a non-family member (employer, supervisor, creative colleague, teacher, counselor, clergy, etc) that tells us about the unique qualities you have that will make you a successful MPI student and future filmmaker or actor.
Once completed, upload the letter of recommendation to your MPI Student Account.
4. 2.0 GPA & Copy of High School Transcript
Official Transcripts must show that the applicant has earned a high school diploma or a general education development (GED) certificate. Contact your school to have the transcripts sent to email@example.com. Some schools use on-line services such as www.parchment.com or National Clearing House.
Applicants with a recognized equivalent of a high school diploma, such as a general educational development (GED) certificate or other state sanctioned test or diploma-equivalency certificate must submit an official copy of their diploma or documents.
Applicants who have completed secondary school education in a homeschool setting which qualified for an exemption from compulsory attendance requirements under state law, if state law does to require a homeschooled student to receive a credential for their education, must submit an official copy of their completion credential or a self-certification that he/she received a state credential.
High school seniors may submit an undergraduate transcript but will be required to submit a final official transcript after graduation to complete enrollment. Students with a lower GPA will be considered with a letter from counselor.

Some schools use parchment exchange or National Student Clearinghouse to send transcripts which we will accept. If you are home-schooled or have a GED please contact us for further information on acceptable documentation.
All transcripts must be reviewed by the Director of Enrollment. After review, we will upload it to your MPI Student Account.
5. Application Interview (in-person or via phone/web)
Applicants that have submitted all items above and have been reviewed and approved, will be asked to participate in an individual application interview (in-person, over the phone or online via Skype, Facetime, Zoom, etc.) to evaluate their readiness and ability to complete the program.
Motion Picture Institute only accepts students who are beyond the age of compulsory school attendance in the state of Michigan. All students must have earned a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
Motion Picture Institute only accepts official transcripts from schools approved as secondary schools by the State in which they reside.
