MPI 2008 Grad Bryan Hopkins documentary "Dirty Energy" makes splash at Santa Barbara Film Festival and in Cleveland

After Bryan D. Hopkins' film "Qing Lou Nu" won two awards at the Detroit Independent Film Festival a couple of years ago, the former Aurora resident has found success again with a documentary about the BP Oil Spill in 2010.

"Dirty Energy" tells the story of how the leak, which spewed millions of gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico before it was repaired, continues to affect the lives of fishermen in the area. The film is scheduled to be screened three times at the Cleveland International Film Festival -- March 28-30.

"Although I reside in Detroit, I'm really excited to be presenting my work for the first time on the big screen in my hometown of Cleveland," Hopkins, 36, said.

"Having traveled outside of the country for more than three years and having lived in Michigan for the last seven, I've never forgotten where I came from.
