Are you ready for your next call back? Prepared enough to be cast for anything? Before you get the part, you will need to audition for it. Auditions can make the sharpest of actors nervous, especially when the stakes are high. It doesn't matter whether you are trying out for a commercial or a film, having the right technique combined with how you present yourself can make all the difference. These days, the industry is using technology to streamline the auditioning process for actors. We are going to demystify that process for you by sharing what we know about self-taping. Our instructor, Rob Winkworth, an agent at The I Group Model and Talent agency (pictured, right), has some helpful self-taping tips and tricks that you can use to stand out from the competition.
Record better video auditions with a strong set up. To do this, you need:
- A stable camera
- To be at eye level.
- Have two lights on your face.
- Make sure the sound is clean.
- Be in front of a neutral background.
- Have a subtle off-lens eye line.
Most Producers and Directors like to meet people before they make final casting decisions. They want to get a feel for personality so be comfortable and let yours come forward with your slate. Set yourself up to get that call back by following Rob’s demonstration and seeing how he incorporates each of these tech tips into his personal routine.
Now that you’ve gone through the basics with Rob, you can take a deeper dive into tips and tricks for self-taping by attending our upcoming Virtual Open House on May 28, 2020.
Then put what you’ve learned into practice and submit your very own video audition. Our student filmmakers are casting for a wide variety of roles for their thesis films. Check out the films, character descriptions and submission process here.
This Fall, we are launching The MPI Actor Studio, a series of four professional development workshops offering three varying levels of experience from basic, intermediate to advanced. The workshops are designed to assist area actors with differing degrees of skill and experience to learn and practice the art of film acting while gaining experience in a cinematic environment.
Our one-year film program is enrolling NOW for this fall. Our intimate class sizes fill up quickly and we only start in September.
