We are very pleased to welcome, Kevin Walsh, to the MPI team as our new Director of Enrollment & Marketing.
Together with MPI’s, Elise Mansour, Kevin will help brand and evolve the institute on local, national, and international levels. Through strategic partnering, online, and community outreach, MPI’s mission for growth and expansion will be realized.
Previously, Kevin taught Radio and Video Production and Language Arts for 28 years in West Bloomfield and Royal Oak Schools. He also created curriculum, designed the studio and editing facilities and achieved Career Tech Ed, (CTE), certification. His students have won State and National Awards and over 25 of his alumni currently work in the entertainment industry.
In 2008, Kevin was selected as Michigan’s Film Teacher of the Year and was a semi-finalist for the state’s annual ‘Teacher of the Year Award.’
Kevin has served as President of the 501c3 non-profit Digital Arts Film and Television, (DAFT), a 50-year organization that supports media literacy and curricular support of Michigan’s media teachers and students. He has also co-chaired DAFT’s annual Michigan Student Film Festival, the longest-running student film festival in the nation, according to AFI.
Kevin has worked in the local film industry as a Location-Scout, Animator and even an extra in “Gran Torino.” He served as an Associate Producer and Location Manager for the William H. Macy/Brittany Snow film, “Dial-a-Prayer,” shot in Metro Detroit. His 18-part historical documentary series and podcast, “Digging Detroit, has been on cable as well as featured in over 15 local communities. Kevin’s blog, “MyMediaDiary,” has been visited over 150,000 times and features podcasts and posts from over 20 authors. Over 40 of his articles have also been featured in Huffington Post.
Kevin was also Humanities Chair for Detroit’s University of Phoenix’s local campus--overseeing curriculum, (both local and online), faculty accreditation and placement, as well as overseeing freshman-year student matters.
Kevin is a 1987 graduate of the University of Notre Dame, (BA-English) and 1990 graduate of Oakland University, (MA-English). He grew up in Clawson and has lived in Royal Oak for 26 years.
