About Motion Picture Institute in Metro-Detroit Michigan
In 1995, we opened the doors of Motion Picture Institute to provide aspiring filmmakers the education and career training ground where they can develop their craft, access film industry professionals and, tools of the trade and determine a logical filmmaking career path, all within a cost effective and supportive educational environment.
As a technical vocational school in Michigan, Motion Picture Institute offers students a highly focused and practical film education on par with the many of the top university degree programs, but at a fraction of the time and tuition. But the biggest advantages our graduates have over college graduates is the individualized career training, on-set experience, and a nationwide network of graduates working in the film industry.
Motion Picture Institute continuing education students get practical experience in classrooms and sound stages featuring state of the art technology, cameras, and equipment. As a technical vocational school, we stress technique over theory, and teach a creative curriculum that challenges student imaginations. Most important, we give our students the small class sizes and personalized attention to explore their interests in scriptwriting, directing, cinematography, and editing.
Our film school graduates work on films worldwide.
As Michigan's oldest and most trusted vocational training school, Motion Picture Institute continues to be the launching point for hundreds of film professionals now working on set in film jobs all over the world from L.A. to Paris. We encourage you to tour our film school campus and visit our Wall of Fame showcasing graduate work on-set in feature films, producing reality tv shows, and of course, independent filmmaking.
Motion Picture Institute is licensed by the State of Michigan's Department of Licensing and Economic Opportunity (LEO.) Proprietary School Unit since 1998. The trade school was founded by independent filmmakers Doug Schulze and Kurt Mayry in 1995.
Motion Picture Institute is also a member of the Ohio-Michigan Association of Career Colleges and Schools (OMACCS) and Digital Animation, Film and Television (DAFT).
